NYC Wired Pop Up Store Opening
What is a pop up store you ask? It is a temporary retail space that “pops up” typically under the radar or secretively with the premise of generating buzz by using the elements of surprise and exclusivity.
Occasionally pop up stores will offer products that are commissioned or licensed in limited quantities. Or a pop up store will be used to launch a new brand or test a new concept. Brands such as Song, Fila, and even Isaac Mizrahi (for Target) have capitalized on this emerging trend.
I checked out my first pop up about two years ago and I adore them! Overall the environment feels like a gallery or showroom. Also, the merchandising and locations tend to be more innovative.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the store opening, which included top-shelf open bar, games, DJ’s, and fun free goodies, like copies of Wired Magazine and Astralwerks CD’s.
Going beyond basic retail store sales, they have also put together a schedule of events and promotions.
Everything from child friendly robot building workshops to evening DJs with free coffee and cocktails.
The NYC Wired pop up store is located on 160 Wooster St. and will be open through Dec. 31.

Although I am adding the opening pics a tad late- I still think it’s worth a peek.
Plenty of great gift ideas and things to drool over. AND FYI-The staff is wonderful! They are informative, gracious, and friendly.
They mix a great cocktail too- during the opening (around 8ish) someone fell over drunk and into the magazines displays. I mean literally, laid out on the floor fall down drunk too. It was super funny!
The staff handled it with good humor and grace. I decided to be merciful with the camera since a friend knew the guy.
But watch out next time…
Here are few highlights:
This is art you can create with your DNA.
Cool!
